Sleep Secrets
A good night sleep is an absolute priority for me, especially on days that I work. I would be lying if I said sometimes my favorite part of the day is climbing into bed at night; especially if I just cleaned my sheets..anyone else?! Sleep hygiene has become a hot topic lately due to so many people struggling to sleep well and wake up feeling rested for the day ahead. My sleep regimen is fairly simple, but it works for me and I hope that you find some of my tips helpful to ensure a good night sleep.
I always start my nightly routine by getting ready for the next day. This helps ease some anxiety as I lay down to rest and also makes the morning go smoothly. I typically meal prep lunches over the weekend. The night before I will chop up any fruits or veggies I also bring into work and pack my lunch bag best I can. I prepare my coffee maker so all it needs in the morning is the press of a button. Picking out an outfit is probably the easiest part of my routine since I wear scrubs every day. I always lay out my scrubs, socks, undergarments and what not the night before. I also am very Type A personality as I am sure some of you have noticed by now so I always set two alarms. My day starts very early so I always have a backup alarm so I do not accidentally sleep in.
Beyond preparing for the next day my nightly routine is fairly simple. I usually have a cup of hot tea (always decaf) or hot water with lemon and honey about 60-90 minutes before bed. I have always found a warm beverage prior to sleeping calming. I always, always wash my face, apply a night cream or sometimes a retinoid depending on the time of the year. My last step of going to bed is turning on my Spotify. Every single night I listen to either rain, ocean, or liquid mind radio. Now that I live in a city coming from the suburbs I am not really used to falling asleep with a lot of sirens and other noise. Playing these playlists helps calm me down and ease my mind into sleep.
