Lake Placid, NY

There is truly something magical about the Adirondacks. The natural beauty there is sometimes unreal that I feel like there is no way that I just drove versus hopping on an airplane to another country. We tend to travel there frequently as it is not too far of a drive.

Below are some of the details of our trip! We stay with Nick’s parents while we are visiting but listed below are some absolute breathtaking hotel stays, little on the pricey side. With that said, an Air BnB cabin with some friends would be another fun way to do this trip too.

The hiking scene here as you can imagine is out of this world. I have so many hikes left on my to do list. I highly recommend downloading the All Trails app to help filter your trail search based on length, difficulty, views, etc.

  • Indian Trail— we have not done this one yet but the views are insane…definitely on my list for next time (note: no dogs allowed)

  • Mount Jo—fairly quick hike but very steep on the short trail

  • The Flumes

  • Mirror Lake Loop—short 2.8 mile loop around Mirror Lake

  • John Brown State Historic Site

Where to Eat

Breakfast

  • Big Mountain Deli—their crepes are a must have but breakfast/brunch sandwiches are equally as delicious

Lunch/Dinners/Breweries

  • Big Adirondack Brewing Company

  • Big Slide Brewing Company

  • Lake Placid Pub—the local spot for sure

  • Lisa G’s- organic food choices, incredible menu

  • The Cottage—cozy and part of the elegant Mirror Lake Inn

  • Smoke Signals—all your BBQ needs

  • The View—nice dinner for special occasion

Things to Do

  • Stroll down town—so many different shops/outlets

  • Vintage Movie theater circa 1926

  • Goose Watch Winery

  • Lake Placid Olympic Museum

  • Olympic Ski Jump Complex Lookout

  • Take a tour of Lake Placid Lodge, Whiteface Lodge, and Mirror Lake Inn —these are beyond the most elegant resorts in the area

The activities in Lake Placid rely heavily on the season. In the winter popular activities are skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating. On the other hand, the summer and fall most people enjoy hiking or utilizing the lake for paddle boarding or kayaking. It really is such a charming town and I would recommend it any time of year.
