29 Lessons for 29 Years
Heading into the last year of my twenties feels incredibly weird. This past decade has gone fast, granted I have one more year. As I have continued through my twenties I have realized that the years seem to go faster. I imagine this trend will continue–the years and milestones flying by. My twenties were filled with hard work, joy, and resilience. I thought I would share lessons I learned along the way:
Delayed gratification is where it is at
Friendships change, and it is okay, they are supposed to
Moving away from home is the quickest way to grow up
Learn how to cook
Take care of your physical body with exercise now–it will only get harder later
FOMO is overrated JOMO (joy of missing out) is the real MVP
Towards the end of your twenties, you’ll be calling your parents more than they call you
If you still have grandparents, make an effort to call and see them
Toxic workplaces are the single worst thing for your mental health–leave
Invest in therapy
You don’t need the tequila shot
Invest in the people that invest in you
Now is your time to try new things professionally
Take the risk – the vacation, job, investment
You don’t need 20% to buy a home
The person you decide to marry should be your best friend first
If they wanted to they would
Learn how to save money
Spend money on your health before your nails and hair
Confidence is a muscle, you have to use it or lose it
A victim mindset will get you nowhere, you have to take control of your life
It is okay to change your mind
Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it buys you freedom and choices
Your dog will be the best thing and biggest stressor (iykyk)
You can follow your own timeline
Done is better than perfect
Routines are essential to feel and perform your best
It’s okay to feel lost
Invest in your people, at the end of the day we aren’t here for very long and tomorrow is not guaranteed, the people in our life are what matters
